WIP: The April Edition

Posted by Betsy C on

Whoa, April has been a busy month full of life changing scenarios and lots of fun new projects.

Sewing wise, it's been a lot of sampling for the new jacket pattern. However, I did manage to sneak in some sewing for Mr. SBCC as he needed a new hoodie. Now that he has two different versions and pajama pants he has found a new appreciation for my sewing skills and has put in some requests for additional development.

(excuse the wrinkles- I literally had to pry this away from him for a quick pic)

Even without a lot of sewing time, of course I still have to purchase more fabric.

I picked up these gems for a new Mimosa, a Tonic variation and a new Gimlet hack thatI can't wait to share. It's is so easy, but looks so sophisticated.

In the meantime, check out the the new print I bought for a bandless Gimlet version. I think we are all thinking new seasonal wardrobe, right?

On to the life changing stuff: So I quit my day job. Yeah, it was a long time coming but I took everyone, and myself by surprise by standing up and saying enough is enough. The winds were prime for change and I found myself in the perfect storm where it was time to abandon ship. Oh man it was a big jump after eight years. I had a cushy job with all sorts of perks but my skills were not being utilized and I had to constantly step back to check myself to make sure I was making everyone else look good. I'm a maker, not a politician. I like to roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty and work along side other skilled people. This scenario was not how I envisioned my career and definitely not the work I was passionate about.

These days I am busy transforming my home sewing space into a usable studio to devote more time to SBCC and my grading business. I'm not quite ready to go back to a full time day job so I am working on freelance gigs around the garment industry. It's odd to find a new routine after 8 years, but I'm getting into the groove of things.

But now that I have a little more of the most valuable commodity: time, I have so many irons in the fire and lots of exciting stuff to come. You can check out my new sample sale shop, the new jacket pattern is coming along--slowly but surely. I am working like crazy to do admin stuff that I have been so behind on. My to-do list is a mile long, but I love it!

One finished project that I am proud of is my new website for my technical services- Pattern Grade check it out and let me know what you think!

  • Late to the post, but I love the fabric on the Gimlet. I’m constantly looking for the perfect print for a Gimlet.

  • It takes gumption to stand up and say enough is enough. Good for you! :) Congratulations on taking this step for yourself.

Good luck in whatever steps you decide to take next.

Btw, I love your simple streamlined designs!

  • Wow Betsy, congrats and good luck on all these changes! Sounds like an exciting time. (Sorry I’m late; somehow I haven’t been getting any blog updates. Need to update my reader.)

  • Hi Kelley! Glad you like the hoodie. Actually this is a pattern I made specifically for him and am thinking about releasing a version. Stay tuned…

  • Hi there! Can I ask what pattern you used for the hoodie? My husband would love one too :)

And congrats on the job change!
